Claudio Alvarez Dunn

As you can see in the following resume, I have experience as reporter, columnist and editor, with a focus on the Spanish-language audience.

I am a journalist with more than 30 years of international experience at different levels of the media industry. I have a passion for news, and for the past several years I have played a central role in planning, developing and carrying out a wide variety of tasks and activities to improve readership through single-copy and online sales.

In 1997, I was part of the founder’s group of Primera Hora newspaper as its managing editor. We created the fastest growing newspaper in Puerto Rico. Later, I was part of the manager's committee of www.primerahora.com .

Now I am an independent journalist with a lot of new tools for multimedia. In October 2007, I was at IFRA at the University of South Carolina, taking intensive courses on the convergence of news from a paper product to the Web.

As we know, the news industry is changing the way of delivering news to their audiences. On other hand, new platforms give an easier (and cheaper) way to build online communities and give people a new voice to express themselves.

I think the key for success is teamwork. My experience brings a strong knowledge in copy editing newswires and local news in Spanish, selecting human-interest stories to motivate the audience, writing great headlines, and designing layouts that display news on different platforms.

I am a marketing-oriented journalist with energy, enthusiasm and creativity, with great ability to work with people and an understanding of journalistic values.

I have management experience to run day-to-day operations, with a strong knowledge of the newsroom. I was at the board of directors of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, as a regional director and as Spanish-language-at-large officer. There I created Spanish-language student workshops for print, radio, TV and online for our annual convention.
